The History
Pooman the movement is evolving! From the humble beginnings of shit giving to one another on our unique style of surfing (us big fella’s need to lower our centre of gravity and some of us just have a large ass)! We decided to embrace our unique styles and what better way of embracing the Pooman style then forming Pooman Boardriders!

Many stubbies were destroyed in the development of the Pooman concept. The idea was around for years but the bottle shops with their fancy advertising seemed to always get in the way of our developing concept. Finally over a few at leightos (mids, cheers Tails!) the dream became a reality! Shirts, stickers were made, export was bought and the first competition was organised for Lancelin!

Knocko beat Powelly to get to the second round but our first Pooman Champion was Rowdy (who has just tied the knot, congrates), runner up was Andy and in third was Robbie Ray. A great day was had by all, and the stubbies went down long after the sun!

People who have been key to Pooman Boardriders include, Leighto, Powelly and of coarse Hutcho who has developed this site! Without these guys this club would not exist, and obviously all the members! As we look towards the ANZAC day Comp at Parry’s Beach Denmark we hope our existing members spread the word and HUEY graces the ocean!!

Who can join PMBR? Anyone from anywhere of any sex creed or colour! PMBR is not so much a private club as a place for people who enjoy surfing. Best of all it is free, it will cost you nothing to join us.

We welcome everyone and anyone who enjoys surfing to come and discuss it with other like minded Poomen.

What is Pooman A Pooman is a stance on a surfboard where the rider squats as if he is having a poo.

The Pooman rose to fame predominately in the 70’s and 80’s coinciding with the shorter boards of the time. The Pooman’s favoured environment is the barrel or tube of the wave however sadly the late 80’s, 90’s and 00’s saw the reduction of Pooman however he still can be found on most days on most beaches usually inside the barrel.

PMBR takes the Pooman as a tounge in cheek look at surfing. By calling ourselves Poomen we inherit the attitude of the stance – don’t care what we look like we’re surfing. We might not be the best surfers around but we’re surfing and having fun. That is the essence of Pooman and PMBR.

What does PMBR do? At the moment the founders of PMBR and its current members hold surfing competitions for all levels of surfing several times a year at different locations around the great state of Western Australia.

The Pooman site acts as a face of PMBR, a place where all surfers can ask questions, have discussions, share photos and stories and most importantly where you’ll hear about the latest Pooman News.

The future depends how the success of this site. If this site gets a lot of interest and members then who knows where PMBR will go. If it doesnt then we will continue as a small group of people organising events a few times a year and having fun.
